I support these positions (raising the minimum wage, maternity leave benefits, affordable universal health care, progressive taxation, affordable public higher education, public transportation, prosecution of corporate crimes). In the General Assembly I am the primary sponsor of the Single Payer Universal Health Care Bill; I am the primary sponsor of Predictive Scheduling legislation to protect employees in chain box stores and restaurants; I am the primary sponsor of Nurse/Patient ratio legislation.
I am the primary sponsor of the Move to Amend Resolution in Ohio Senate to overturn Citizens United. I support public campaign financing.
I have been a leader in criminal justice reform. I have strongly advocated for drug sentencing to be based upon weight of actual drug not aggregate weight, i.e. baking soda mixed with a small amount of drug.
I have been Ohio Environmental Council Legislator of the Year and also received Nature Conservancy Conservation Leader award. I am primary sponsor of legislation to ban fracking waste injection wells and legislation to ban drilling under the bed of Lake Erie. I worked to get the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Standards adopted in Ohio. I am a member of the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators.
I strongly opposed Ohio resolutions supporting construction of the B-52 fighter bomber and to build a missile defense base in Ravenna. I have supported former Congressman Kucinich's call for the establishment of a Department of Peace.
I am the primary sponsor in the Ohio Senate of legislation to provide non-discrimination in housing and the workplace for LGBTQ. I strongly opposed and campaigned against the Statewide Defense of Marriage Ballot Issue.
