Issue responses

Economic justice

If elected, my economic priorities would be a living wage for Ohioans, properly funding public education and opposing unaccountable, privatized charter schools, expanding healthcare access for low and middle income Ohioans in the short term by better preventative care (in particular dental care) and with a long-term goal of a statewide single-payer system, and putting Ohioans to work rebuilding our outdated infrastructure and expanding our green energy infrastructure. I also support the concept of a universal basic income currently being tested at various levels around the world in the fight against income inequality.

Political justice

A personal ideal for increasing voter turnout and confidence is through reforming our electoral system using ranked-choice or instant run-off voting in general elections to remove the spoiler effect of third parties, thereby giving Ohio voters more choice while ensuring that representatives secure a majority vote. If elected I would be a representative for all my constituents, whether they share my politics or not, and it would be my job to help create a system that reflects that diversity of opinion and give candidates of major parties and third parties fair treatment. I support amending our redistricting process to create geographically compact and competitive districts that do not inherently benefit one party over another, though my personal ideal would be a system for proportional representation.

Racial justice

As stated above, I am committed to advocating for well-funded public education. I also believe that police officers must be held to the same standard, if not a higher standard, as the general public. Our police are over militarized and need to always view opening fire as the absolute last resort. Better conflict resolution skills are a must. Police must be seen as part of the community, not an occupying army. I also believe that it is important for police to live in the communities they serve. Decriminalization for nonviolent drug offenses and ending long sentences for such crimes is also a priority for me. If Ohio manages to legalize marijuana, I will fight to have nonviolent offenders released and those convictions expunged from their records. We must also ensure that well funded and efficient programs are in place to help those released reintegrate into society at large through education, job training, and placement.

International Justice

Though running for state representative, if elected I would use that position to lobby our federal representatives to prioritize respectful diplomacy over threats of force to advance our agenda on the world stage. It is vital that our national leaders invest our tax dollars here at home to provide quality healthcare, quality education, and a good quality of life. We are wasting trillions of dollars on endless wars that only fuel future conflict. We are making enemies abroad at the cost of our and our children's futures.

Social Justice

I support strong legal protections for all Ohioans from any form of discrimination and will vigorously oppose all efforts to oppress minority groups, restrict the rights of pregnant people to control their bodies, and attempts to restrict voting rights. As a member of the LGBTQ community, I obviously oppose any efforts to rollback the progress that has been made for equal rights. I support the work of the Black Lives Matter movement raising awareness and speaking the uncomfortable truths that we as a society need to finally take seriously. I also support the current national conversation around sexual harassment and assault, and support efforts to create an environment in which victims can come forward and be heard without fear of backlash.
