Issue responses

Economic justice

  1. Minimum Wage: Support raising it to $15 and then a mandatory increase as cost of living increases
  2. Maternity Leave should be right not a benefit and legislated accordingly
  3. Affordable universal healthcare: support single-payer not for profit
  4. progressive taxation: Wealth inequality will continue unless the wealthy are required to pay their fair share of taxes
  5. support free college tuition at all state universities
  6. public transportation: support fully funding and modernizing all public transportation systems

Political justice

To reduce incarceration for nonviolent crimes you need to eliminate mandatory sentencing. To prosecute police for wrongful shooting's you must eliminate all involvement of the police unions and have all cases go directly to the criminal justice system. To achieve high quality public education you need to return to the evidence based model of funding so that the wealth of the community and the nature of students of a given community determine funding. Economic development in minority communities is best achieved by limiting gentrification. This can be done by making it mandatory that an equal number of dollars spent on gentrification projects be spent on minority economic development.

Environmental justice

Considering what's going on currently at the national level state regulations need to be tougher than they are now. Wind turbines on Lake Erie should be given a maximum opportunity to develop so that FirstEnergy can gradually be put out of business.

International Justice

Although this does not directly apply to State Legislators my thoughts go like this. National Defense should be what it's title implies: Defense. A clear and present danger must unequivocally be proven before military action is taken. Humane immigration policies start by immediately restoring DACA to allow the Dreamers to stay. To decrease American Military spending a good start could be made prohibiting the Military Industrial Complex from engaging in lobbying activity.

Social Justice

Equal rights and opportunities for people of color starts by reversing wealth inequality, raising taxes on the wealthy and then funneling the money back into minority communities for economic development. Implementation of color blind policing and the elimination of mandatory sentencing for low level drug crimes is another start. Although it is great that the LGBT community can now marry who they choose LGBT discrimination in the workplace continues and must be eliminated by statewide legislation. I fully support a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions without any interference by the state.
