During the special election for the chair of Cuyahoga County's Democratic party, progressives were short less than 50 votes to place a progressive in that position. This upcoming May is the next election for Precinct Committee members, which is then followed by the regular vote for county chair. The CCPC needs your help to run for one of the over 700 seats within the county so that next year we can place progressives in positions of power in the county democratic party.
Any active registered Democrat can run for the position in their precinct.
The principals that we will be pushing for the party are as follows:
- - Change the endorsement process, Currently the Executive Committee endorses candidates. Half of the Executive Committee is elected by the Central Committee, the other half is appointed by the Party Chair. Appointed Executive Committee members are exactly like the detested Superdelegates at the national level. We prefer a bottom up endorsement process like a vote of rank and file democrats.
- - The Party does not accept corporate contribution. Corporations always expect something in return for their money. (See Kevin Kelly's "Community Chest")
- - Be visible in the community particularly at Trump resistance rally's and protest's. Currently the Party doesn't even promote these events much less co-sponsor or attend them.
- - Work on issues to fight Wealth Inequality. Examples include the Fight for 15 campaign and working with organizations like the Cleveland Lead Safe Network and Clevelanders for Public Transit
