IRTF Commemoration of the Martyrs

IRTF Commemoration of the Martyrs

Commemoration of the 37th anniversary of the martyrdom of Cleveland women in El Salvador. On December 2, 1980—four US women (including Cleveland’s Jean Donovan and Ursuline Sister Dorothy Kazel) paid with their lives for deciding to stay in solidarity with oppressed and marginalized peoples, despite the deadly violence and political turmoil in El Salvador. Our organization was founded to carry forward their legacy. Since 1981, we have been promoting peace and justice in Central America by engaging Ohioans in education and action. To commemorate the martyrdom of the Cleveland women and empower people to carry on their legacy, we need your help! We respectfully request that you consider a sponsorship or a donation (gift card or product for our auction) to support our annual Commemoration of the Martyrs. Event will feature a social hour and auction with live music by Chakai Manta, a sit-down traditional Central America meal, and interfaith service. Please join us as we welcome our guest speaker from COPINH (Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras). COPINH was co-founded by slain environmental and indigenous rights defender Berta Cáceres. COPINH is actively working with IRTF through the Honduras Solidarity Network to pass a human rights bill in the US Congress named for Berta Cáceres. Reserve your table for 8 people by calling IRTF at 216 961 0003.  Hosted by IRTF - The InterReligious Task Force on Central America
