Ohio Communities Rising Tour

Ohio Communities Rising Tour

Presentation by Merrily Mazza, Lafayette City Council Member. She worked with the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund to craft a local charter amendment and proposed and helped get on the ballot Colorado’s first local Community Bill of Rights which established the right to community self-government, rights of eco-systems, and the residents’ rights to clean air, and water.  It banned all oil and as development within the city limits as a violation of those rights. The charter amendment passed with 62% of the vote.  Merrily said:  It’s critical to her that people are able to live with dignity;  where they have rights; where they’re not overridden by corporations and corporate  power.  She is concerned about the world her grandchildren will have to live in and she believes more local government officials should be committed to community rights. Hosted by Sustainable Medina County.
