Shaker Heights Democracy Day

Shaker Heights Democracy Day

Monday, September 11 has been designated by the City of Shaker Heights as its first Democracy Day, as a result of the initiative petition (Issue 95) approved by voters in November 2016. A public hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m. that day in support of an amendment to the US Constitution to establish that corporations are not people and money is not free speech. Those in attendance will be granted up to five minutes to speak on that topic. Please attend and consider speaking on a topic relating to the negative influence of corporate personhood and big money in politics in our lives -- e.g., privatization of schools and prisons, the gun lobby, ALEC's effect on state legislation, food safety, etc. Arrive early to sign in to speak. THANK YOU FOR PROMOTING DEMOCRACY IN OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR COUNTRY. Democracy Day has been organized by Shaker Heights Move to Amend. For questions, contact Bruce Ente at 216.777.0708 or Kathy Hazelton at 216.224.4945.
