Two candidates, Chris Ronayne and Tariq Shabazz are seeking the CCPC endorsement for Cuyahoga County Executive. All CCPC endorsements are determined by a vote of our membership with a 2/3 threshold needed for an endorsement to occur. Below is a link to the CCPC endorsement ballot for County Executive. Included in that link is a link to the CCPC Endorsement Application and Questionnaire that both candidates submitted. Also below is a link to the March 28 CCPC County Executive Candidates Forum. All ballots must be cast by the end of the day today to be included in the vote tally

Dignity, Health and Heroes Pay for the City of Cleveland Essential Workers Monday, April 11 from 6:30 to 7 pm @ Cleveland City Hall (front steps), 601 Lakeside Ave. Cleveland 44114. During the course of the COVID pandemic, thousands of the City of Cleveland employees who were Essential Workers reported to work every day to provide critical city services which could not stop. Our Janitors at the airport, Sanitation Workers, Utility Workers, Fire, EMS, and Police continued putting their health and lives on the line working without any type of Premium Pay (Heroes Pay). In the Spring of 2021, the US Government announced a round of funding that would be available to cities, counties and states to use specifically to support the response and recovery from the pandemic. The City of Cleveland will receive a total of $512 million, and one of the uses listed is Heroes Pay for Workers. Still, our city workers have yet to receive any extra compensation from the city for their time on the frontlines.
We are calling on the City of Cleveland to make our Essential Workers whole by compensating for the time they worked during the pandemic. We are also asking the city to adopt an Essential Worker Bill of Rights to protect workers if we experience another pandemic or state of emergency.
Guardians for Fair Work and Baseball Next Week
Thinking about going to a Guardians baseball game next week? Did you know the average cost of a baseball game for four people is $253? Now imagine spending that on 11 games this season. That adds up to about $2800. $2800 is the average amount an Ohio victim of wage theft experiences each year and that theft impacts more than a quarter million workers annually That’s where Guardians for Fair Work comes in, a key plank in the Fair Wages platform. Given that the City of Cleveland just committed spending $117 million annually on the Guardians baseball stadium, shouldn’t city lawmakers also insure that workers across Cleveland are paid for their work and not robbed by wage theft? When employers refuse to pay promised wages, pay less than the minimum wage, fail to pay for all hours worked, or don’t pay overtime compensation as required by law, they’re committing theft! Cleveland can do better!
